KJ worked alongside Jimmy Cricket back in 2012 to raise funds in conjunction with the third LW Rock 4 Macmillan Concert.

In memory of his father Lance Wood, KJ has raised thousands of pounds for the Macmillan charity over the last decade.

KJ hands a check to the Macmillan charity back in conjunction with the second LW Rock 4 Macmillan Concert

A check for £1,366 is handed to Sue Macdonald for Macmillan Charity.

With the popularity of the fundraising events, KJ also decided to take on five challenges in conjunction with BBC Cumbria.

Sell out events continue to raise funds for the Macmillan Cancer Support charity. £6,500 was raised with Black Lace headlining at the Carlisle event.

Marathon fundraising got tougher with the addition of a sixth challenge. KJ pledged to climb, hike, run, sing and has now added weight loss to the target.

The fundraising continues to grow with more challenges, events and support. KJ has raised over £13,000 at this point for the Macmillan Cancer Support charity.

Sponsorship deals, headline acts and TV personalities back KJ in sell out concerts in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support charity.

The fundraising continues as KJ secures sponsorship deals with local business and raises the profile with top names in the entertainment industry.

K J Wood Charity Story

KJ lost his father, Lance Wood to liver cancer back in September 2009. This hit KJ hard at the time, as his father was his biggest supporter and best friend. Shortly after Lance's death, KJ wanted to make a difference and raise money for Macmillan Cancer Care in memory of his father and to thank the nurses who were very supportive. Lance's cancer was very severe, and the progression was rapid to take hold. The Macmillan nurses were amazing and made every effort to ensure that Lance was taken care of, in every way possible.

KJ endeavoured to organise a Charity Concert to

raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Care.

It took nearly a year to organise and prepare the first concert, staged at the Gretna Social Club. Five local acts supported and performed at the event, including the band "The Mass" in which KJ was a member of at the time. The event was a massive success, with raffle and auction prizes donated by local firms. Social media messages, letters and emails flooded in with support and well wishes in the following weeks and months after this first event.

This sell out event was to become the first of many

LW Rock 4 Macmillan Concerts.

Since then, there have been many LW Rock 4 Macmillan Concerts, selling out and raising thousands of pounds at each event. Sponsorship deals started to come in from local businesses, support from top name acts pledging their time to appear at the events, with radio and newspaper coverage of the concerts hitting the press.

Each year the sell-out concerts have got bigger, with larger venues, more top name acts, bigger raffle prizes including a quad bike were donated by one of the sponsors. TV personalities and top name acts have provided their support including:

Top TV Comedian Mick Miller
Mick Miller, Black Lace, Les Gibson (BGT), Jimmy Cricket, Tom Hingley (Inspiral Carpets), Edwin Starr Band with Angelo Starr, plus many more.
Tom Hingley from Chart Topping Band Inspiral Carpets
The challenge to do bigger and better things increased, with the decision in 2014 to add something extra to the fund-raising activities. The Big 5 Challenge 4 Macmillan was accepted by KJ with the support of friends, family, sponsors and supporters. The challenges were suggested via social media and drawn out of a hat Live on Air on Radio Cumbria.
